ALCA CE Webinar: Dementia Beyond Stigma

ALCA CE Webinar: Dementia Beyond Stigma
In this webinar, Lynn Casteel Harper, author of On Vanishing: Mortality, Dementia, and What It Means to Disappear, will invite participants to re-examine the common “decline” or “tragedy” framing of dementia and embrace more creative, hopeful, and humanizing approaches. Challenging the ageism and cognitivism that stigmatize dementia, Harper will highlight movements and individuals who are forging more life-affirming and joyful paths forward.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the “tragedy narrative” commonly associated with dementia, including its origins and harmful impacts on individuals living with dementia.
  • Identify emerging approaches that challenge ageism and dementism of the tragedy frame by promoting more creative, humanizing, and hopeful perspectives.
  • Apply tools and resources to facilitate more positive and person-centered approaches to dementia in professional practice.
